Introduction to OpenRefine Online

OpenRefine is a powerful free and open source tool for working with messy data: cleaning it and transforming it from one format into another. This workshop will teach you to use OpenRefine to clean and format data effectively and automatically track any changes that you make. Many people comment that this tool saves them literally months of work trying to make these edits by hand.

While no prior knowledge of the program is required, you will want to download OpenRefine and the data set we will be using ahead of the workshop. Instructions for doing so can be found here: https://ohsu-library.github.io/cleaning-data-openrefine/index.html#setup

This workshop is composed of the following "episodes":

  1. Introduction
  2. Importing Data
  3. Exporting Data
  4. Transforming Data
  5. Filtering and Sorting
  6. Exporting Data Cleaning Steps
  7. Exporting and Saving Data
